Traditional Mosaic Making

  • Butser Ancient Farm Chalton Lane Hampshire, PO8 0BG United Kingdom (map)

In the workshop, you will enjoy a hands-on, creative experience, discovering the art of ancient mosaic making from start to finish. You will be guided through each stage in a relaxed and engaging way, working with the same traditional materials and tools that were used over 2,000 years ago, the whole process of making an ancient mosaic is both immersive and very rewarding.

This workshop offers a truly unique opportunity to step back in time and connect with an ancient craft in a meaningful and memorable way. This is not only about discovering clever techniques of the past but also re-discovering values that we miss in our fast-moving society.

You will create your own 20 × 20 cm mosaic using these traditional techniques in a one-day workshop, offering a satisfying and creative hands-on experience.

For those 16+ (or 14+ if accompanied by an adult)

Daljit Rai and Denise Wiltschko are both trained mosaic artists who completed their Diplomas at the London School of Mosaics. They bring significant experience, having worked on major projects like the London Bridge mosaic, the corridor floor at the Roman villa at Butser Ancient Farm, delivered workshops, and carried out restoration and design work.
