Bronze Age Skirt Making Workshop

Explore the amazing textile survival from Danish Bronze Age Burials. Over two days explore materials of the bronze age and discover a range of techniques used to create bronze age clothing. Examine fibres including wool, nettle and flax. Using bone and copper needles, learn and use the stitches of Egtved, Borum Eshoj, and Skrydstrup. Make your own Egtved string skirt to take home. 

Stay on-site in one of our historic buildings for an additional fee.

Vanessa Bunton has a Masters in Archaeology and is an educator who's mission is to make history come alive for the public. She uses her background as an archaeologist and educator to create immersive experiences that transport people back in time. She creates ancient textiles, amber and bone objects, sharing her skills through workshops.  She has delivered at leading locations around the United Kingdom including; The British Museum, Bryn Celli Ddu, and the Ancient Technology Centre.

Included in your ticket

Entrance to the farm, two day’s tuition and expertise, and use of all the tools and materials necessary to create a Bronze Age string skirt. Staying on-site is an additional cost.

Please wear sensible clothing and footwear for this workshop.

Food is not included for this course. Sandwiches (subject to availability), hot and cold drinks, and snacks are sold in our gift shop.

This workshop is suitable for ages 18+.
