Look at a number of bone objects from throughout prehistory to the early medieval period and learn techniques for working bone, including the safe use of the tools. Under the guidance of experimental archaeologist Vanessa Bunton, you will then create your own bone item to take home using either tools from prehistory through to hand knives and file from the early medieval period. Some possible options include: a bone weaving comb, toggles, hair pins, needles, cloak pins, Mesolithic style spearhead, pendants.

Vanessa Bunton has a Masters in Archaeology and is an educator who's mission is to make history come alive for the public. She uses her background as an archaeologist and educator to create immersive experiences that transport people back in time. She creates ancient textiles, amber and bone objects, sharing her skills through workshops. She has delivered at leading locations around the United Kingdom including; The British Museum, Bryn Celli Ddu, and the Ancient Technology Centre.
Included in your ticket
Entrance to the farm, a day’s tuition and expertise, and use of all the tools and materials necessary to create your own bone artefact.
