Boudicca: The Rebellious Life and Times of A Celtic Warrior Queen
Single ticket £20.50
Join Bernadette Russell around the fire for an evening of storytelling about the fiery and fearsome Boudicca, Queen of the Iceni tribe, who led a devastating revolt against the occupying forces of the Roman Empire in AD 60. With her army of 100,000 tribal warriors, she marched on Camulodunum (Colchester), Londinium (London), and Verulamium (St Albans), before the final battle in which she died, in her own words, “not fighting for my kingdom and wealth ... fighting as an ordinary person for my lost freedom, my bruised body, and my outraged daughters.”
Through songs, poems, magic and war cries, Bernadette brings the dramatic world of Boudicca and Roman Britain vividly to life. Gather around the fire and be transported back to those epic times as her story unfolds – a tale of courage, rebellion and freedom that will leave you uplifted and inspired by a woman who fought against all the odds and lived without compromise.
Bernadette Russell is a performance storyteller and the author of six non-fiction books. She is the creative writing tutor at Treadwell’s Books in London, and has previously told stories at many venues including Royal Albert Hall, Southbank Centre and National Theatre, as well as in the woods, parks and wild places of London, Brighton and her native Hampshire.
There will be a bar selling locally produced cider, mead and a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Hot drinks and snacks will also be available to purchase from our shop.
“Bernadette's stories are magical, moving and hilarious all at once. She weaves a spell with words!” – audience member at A Pause at Winter's Gate.
