Come and weave in an Iron Age roundhouse, using techniques which stretch back thousands of years. Join heritage educator Kat Wootton to learn about setting up a simple backstrap loom using a rigid heddle. Learn about warp threads and weft threads, what the shuttle does, and a little textiles history, while making a beautiful belt from natural fibres. Suitable for beginners. 16+ (or 14+ if accompanied by an adult)

Kat Wootton has been experimenting with natural fibres for more than 15 years, from cordage to spinning and weaving. She believes that we should always be learning and that working with our hands taps into a primal need humans have, to create.

Entrance to the farm, a morning’s tuition and expertise, and use of all the tools and materials necessary to create an attractive belt to take away.

Please wear sensible clothing and footwear for this workshop. Lunch is not included, although sandwiches (subject to availability), hot and cold drinks, and snacks are sold in our gift shop. You’re also welcome to bring a picnic if you prefer!
