Write Like a Saxon: Ink & Quill Workshop with Caroline Ross

  • Butser Ancient Farm Chalton Lane Hampshire, PO8 0BG United Kingdom (map)

In this workshop with bestselling author and natural art materials teacher Caroline Ross, you'll learn how the ink, quill pens and brushes of Saxon era illuminated manuscripts, and for later documents such as the Magna Carta, were made.

You'll learn recipes and methods for successfully making ink and cutting quills, learn the origins of pen knives, get to try out swan and goose quill pens, and see the magic of writing ink turning black before your eyes. All materials and paper will be provided and you will go home with a ready made quill pen to use at home with any ink.
