Step out of the ordinary…
Celebrate the end of the school year with a week of immersive ancient activities! From flintknapping and bone-carving to casting metal and making chainmail, get hands-on with tools and skills usually only taught to adults on this one-of-a-kind adventure!
Designed for busy parents, our camps offer flexible booking and convenient hours, and are run by our award-winning education and engagement team.

Monday: Breaking Bones
Learn how to make objects from needles to children’s toys out of animal bones! Plus weave on a natural loom, spin sheep’s wool, make ancient music, see natural dyeing, and paint a fresco.

Tuesday: Campfire Cooking
Cook a feast from start to finish, including chopping kindling, lighting a fire, preparing fish with flint tools, and cooking over the fire. Plus make a leather pouch and complete team challenges!

Wednesday: Melting Metal
Get hands-on with metal, and design and cast your own tin ornament! Plus learn to make chainmail, crack codes on wax tablets, weave a Viking braid, and join a mini-hike offsite.

Thursday: Wielding Weapons
Practice archery and sling-throwing, and make own flint knife! Learn flintknapping to make a blade, and attach a handle with ancient glue. Plus orienteering, shelter-building, and team problem-solving!
About Extreme Sixteen
Celebrate the end of GCSEs and connect with your peers through a week of immersive activities! Designed for older teens, this camp is all about stepping out from kids activities and learning adult skills, all in a unique outdoor environment.

From knapping flint and cooking fish over a fire to fire-lighting, metal smelting, and team problem-solving, Extreme Sixteen is packed with hands-on fun. Every day offers a new mix of exciting, screen-free activities designed to spark curiosity, build independence, promote teamwork, and keep young minds active and engaged.

All our holiday camps are run by members our education and engagement team, who are fully DBS checked and first aid trained.
Josh Ward-Penny is Butser’s master of fun, from birthday parties to scout sleepovers. He’s a goat dad, Roman reenactor, and ex-teacher, and his enthusiasm, knowledge, and patience makes him the perfect leader for our holiday camps.
Every day, Josh is assisted by members of the Butser education and engagement team. We pride ourselves on our team’s knowledge and friendliness, and camp assistants are hand-picked to make your kids’ time at camp the best it can be.
