Introduction to the Stone Age

Escape the modern world for half a day - join a small group fireside in a recreated neolithic house to take the chance for some hands-on learning with knowledgeable historian Paul Ullson. Handle a wide variety of artefacts (recreated by Paul using authentic methods) and get to grips with animal furs to better understand the lives of our ancestors. Receive an induction into the Stone Age and have the chance to ask all the questions which you were never able to in school! Learn to finger braid a leather cord and thread on a tooth to make a necklace - a memento of the time you stepped back in time.

About the workshop

Paul Ullson is a local historian and dedicated reenactor who has tirelessly spent over a quarter of a century breathing life into history - whether in classrooms, castles, museums and heritage sites such as ours. He wields his considerable experience working in the heritage sector to lead the rapscallions of the re-enactment group RavenTor - and has more than earnt his moniker: ‘The History Man.’

Entrance to the farm, an overview of the Stone Age delivered in atmospheric surroundings. Handling of Stone Age artefacts and appropriate furs. Tuition and materials to make a leather finger braided tooth necklace!

Workshop Info

Please wear sensible clothing and footwear for this workshop. Lunch is not included, although sandwiches (subject to availability), hot and cold drinks, and snacks are sold in our gift shop. You’re also welcome to bring a picnic if you prefer!

This workshop is for 18+ (or 11+ if accompanied by an adult) - accompanying adults must also buy their own ticket.

NOTE:  Due to materials being handled and used, this sessions may be unsuitable for vegans. All furs, leathers and animal products have been responsibly sourced. Please make course facilitator aware of any allergies (including fur) beforehand by emailing:
