Learn to use foraged, wild-growing plants to make prehistoric twine, and start work on a coil basket! Guided by heritage craftsperson Kat Wootton, you’ll discover the history of this prehistoric craft, learn to extract the natural fibres from various plants, discover ancient methods of cordage-making, and work your new cordage into a simple coil basket. Running both days this weekend.

About the workshop

  • 10am - 2:30pm with a break for lunch

  • Learn ancient techniques to make your own cordage

  • Work with a variety of plants like horseradish and nettles

  • Discover how to make a simple coil basket with your new skills

  • Set in the unique surroundings of Butser Ancient Farm’s historic buildings

Included in your ticket

Entrance to the farm, dedicated tuition and expertise, a variety of plants to work with, and all the materials necessary to make your own coil basket from natural cordage.
