Get hands-on with history and discover our educational activities programme!
Join us at the farm for a special day of fun and educational activities bringing history to life. Led by a dedicated member of our education team, you’ll get involved in four hands-on activities, explore our ancient buildings, and hear more about life in the Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Roman, and Saxon periods.
Perfect for home-ed families and kids who haven't been able to visit us with their school, this is an incredible way to bring to life a period in history that’s hard for kids to imagine — and can be hard to teach, too!
The four activities for this event are:
Digging in our archaeology pits
Learning to wattle a wall, the same technique used in our roundhouses!
Carving ancient designs in chalk
Making Celtic jewellery to take home
Kids of all ages are welcome, and curious adults can get involved as well!
Please note that all under-18s must be accompanied by an adult (event ticket required). The event will run with teaching groups of up to 30.
If your child has any special needs, please let us know at schools@butserancientfarm.co.uk and we’ll do everything we can to accommodate you.
USEFUL INFORMATION: Please wear practical clothing and sensible footwear, as this event features hands-on activities and you may get a little mucky! Warm clothes are recommended.
Please note that our buildings feature open fires.
Lunch is not included in this event, but you can buy sandwiches, snacks, and hot and cold drinks in our shop. You’re also welcome to bring a picnic if you prefer!
ANIMALS: We are sorry but dogs (apart from assistance dogs) are not invited to this special event.
REFUNDS: We cannot offer any refunds on tickets unless we at Butser Ancient Farm need to cancel the event due to unforeseen circumstances.
COVID-19: We will be complying with any relevant Covid-19 government guidance in place at the time of the event including the latest guidance on mask wearing. If you have any Covid-19 symptoms or have been asked to self-isolate, please do not attend.
