Opening times

From November to March, we will be closed to the general public for our winter season, with the exception of pre-booked educational visits, workshops & special events:

Our opening times are 10am - 4pm, with last admission at 2:30pm. Most visits last between two and five hours. We welcome group visits and school trips all year round.

From 28 March 2026 we will return to our summer season hours until October 2026:
Wednesdays to Sundays - 10am - 4pm
Bank Holiday Mondays - 10am - 4pm

Free parking

We have free hardstanding and field parking on site at Butser. Please car share where possible to help save the planet!

Health & safety

We are a working farm with open fires, farm equipment and other tools on site. If you are visiting with children, their safety is your responsibility so please keep them with you at all times.

Accessibility

Please note our historic buildings feature open fires. Air quality is generally good but we can’t guarantee a lack of smoke.

Dogs welcome

Well-behaved dogs are welcome at Butser Ancient Farm, but please respect our livestock and other visitors by keeping them on a lead and cleaning up after them.

Food & drink

We have snacks, cakes and hot and cold drinks available in our shop, as well as sandwiches during our busiest times (while stocks last). You are also welcome to bring your own picnic.

We’re two minutes off the A3 and are easily accessible from London, Portsmouth, and beyond. Get directions →

    Our nearest train station is Petersfield.

    We are on the Number 37 bus line from Petersfield to Clanfield; get off by the Hampshire Hog pub in Clanfield and walk 20 minutes along the road to Butser.
