An outdoor adventure for kids!

Experience the past like never before, with a fun-filled week of outdoor activities! Learn archery, grind wheat and bake bread, try out ancient weapons, and more. With each day themed around a different era of history, explore the past and earn your stripes as a Butser time traveller!

Designed for busy parents, our camps offer flexible booking and convenient hours, and are run by our award-winning education and engagement team.

Camp schedule

Monday: Stone Age Survivors

Travel back to the hunter-gatherer days! Learn to light a fire, grind wheat, and cook bread, try out Stone Age musical instruments, use flint to carve chalk art, make ancient twine, and more!
Tuesday: Bronze Age Builders

Get hands-on with some of humanity’s earliest inventions! Make and decorate clay pots, watch a bronze smelting demonstration, use a sling to hit targets, work in teams for fishing-themed challenges, and more!
Wednesday: Iron Age Innovators

Learn to survive the Iron Age! Practice archery with our instructor, try spinning wool and weave cloth on a loom, help build an ancient wall, make a leather pouch, and more!
Thursday: Roman Rulers

Discover the might of the Roman Empire! Fight a Roman soldier and fire a replica siege weapon, design your own mosaic, experience a Roman maths lesson, complete an aqueduct challenge, and more!
Friday: Saxon Storytellers

Experience the time of Alfred the Great! Handle artefacts, strike your own ancient coin, make a quill and write in runes, learn to make a wattle fence, braid using a Viking trollen wheel, go digging in our archaeology pits, and more!
Every day: History Hub

Our camp’s core hours are 10am till 4pm, with flexible drop off and pick up from 9am till 5pm. In these extra hours, join the History Hub and learn to play ancient boardgames, handle artefacts, hear stories, play group games, and more!

About the Time Traveller’s Club

The camp’s core activity hours are from 10am till 4pm, but we know that doesn’t suit everyone! We also offer flexible drop off from 9am and pick up till 5pm, with a range of calm activities, games, and crafts during these hours.

Every day offers a new mix of exciting, screen-free activities designed to spark curiosity, build independence, promote teamwork, and keep young minds active and engaged.

Meet the team

All our summer camps are run by members our education and engagement team, who are fully DBS checked and first aid trained.

Josh Ward-Penny is Butser’s master of fun, from birthday parties to scout sleepovers. He’s a goat dad, Roman reenactor, and ex-teacher, and his enthusiasm, knowledge, and patience makes him the perfect leader for our holiday camps.

Every day, Josh is assisted by members of the Butser education and engagement team. We pride ourselves on our team’s knowledge and friendliness, and camp assistants are hand-picked to make your kids’ time at camp the best it can be.
