SORRY SOLD OUT

Over the past 50 years Butser Ancient Farm has gone through many changes, not least in its physical location in the beautiful South Downs National Park.

Originally located at the top of Butser Hill this guided walk will start at the original Butser site, taking in the various locations of the farm over the years, alongside the archaeological evidence in the nearby area. We’ll end up back at Butser Ancient Farm where you can purchase refreshments from the shop and explore the farm as it is today (optional - farm entrance ticket required to enter the farm)

The walk will be of moderate difficulty, mainly downhill and approximately 5 miles long.

Join us to celebrate and reflect on the past 50 years of this momentous project to explore our ancient past.

All profits will go to supporting the ongoing educational and research work of Butser Ancient Farm.

Please park in the Butser Ancient Farm car park and meet at the entrance to the visitor centre at 10am. We will then arrange a car shuttle or minibus to get people to the start of the walk at the top of Butser Hill.

Well behaved dogs on leads welcome, however unfortunately dogs are not permitted on the minibus, except assistance dogs, so, if bringing a dog, you would need to make your own way to the top of Butser Hill and park in the pay and display car park. Unfortunately we are unable to return you to your car, so if you could arrange to do a car shuffle with a friend or friends, that would be great. Alternatively, if you are feeling fit and sprightly, after the walk finishes at Butser Ancient Farm you could do the walk in reverse and pick up your vehicle at the car park!

  • This walk is of moderate difficulty and of about 5 miles in distance, mainly downhill. We will be stopping frequently to point out interesting features in the landscape but would recommend it for confident walkers.

  • Please wear sensible shoes and clothing for the weather conditions, including sunscreen/ hats/ coats as needed!

Please bring your own water bottle and you may with to bring some snacks with you to enjoy during the walk.

  • The walk will start at the top of Butser Hill. However we suggest people park in the overflow car park at Butser Ancient Farm and meet by the entrance to the farm where we will be arranging a car shuttle/ minibus to transport people to the top of Butser Hill.

Please note if you are bringing a dog with you it will not be possible to go in the minibus in which case you may have to park at the top of Butser Hill in the pay and display car park and arrange your own transport back to the top of the hill at the end of the walk (either returning on foot or arranging a lift with a friend).

  • Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome. However unfortunately dogs are not permitted on the minibus, except assistance dogs, so you would need to meet us at the top of Butser Hill at the pay and display car park.

Unfortunately we are unable to return you to your car, so if you could arrange to do a car shuffle with a friend or friends, that would be great. Alternatively, if you are feeling fit and sprightly, you could do the walk in reverse and pick up your vehicle at the car park!

  • There are two ticket options, the £16 ticket includes entrance to Butser Ancient Farm at the end of the walk or the £6 option is just for just the walk which ends at the car park of Butser Ancient Farm.
