May Half term: Roman Villa-Warming Celebration!
27th May – 31st May 10am – 5pm.
You’re invited to the Butser Roman Villa-warming celebration! Celebrate the completion of the Roman Villa renovation project and experience what life in a Roman Villa would have been like almost 2000 years ago!
In 2017 Butser Ancient Farm launched an ambitious villa renovation project to improve the presentation and facilities at the villa. Based on excavations from Sparsholt near Winchester, the villa is now ready to welcome guests, with a working hypocaust, beautifully painted brightly coloured walls, a mosaic floor, toilets, furnishings and decoration fit for a Roman family to move in!
In association with Chichester’s Roman week the farm will be celebrating all things Roman and showcasing what life in a countryside Villa would have been like.
Different activities will be on offer each day – heres a snapshot of what we have planned.
Monday – Butser IX Legion will be in residience in the Roman villa with marching, archery, roman cooking and more.
Tuesday – Roman school room activities, crafts and see the working hypocaust.
Wednesday – Roman school room activities, crafts and see the working hypocaust.
Thursday – Roman school room activities, crafts and see the working hypocaust.
Friday – Discover more about Roman weaving, textiles and crafts.
All guided activities will run between 11am to 3pm. Please note: activities are offered by our wonderful volunteers and may be subject to change.
