Evening talk: The Making of a Roman Mosaic with Sue Webber

Evening talk: Making of a Roman Mosaic with Sue Webber

Thursday 18th July 2019 7pm – 8pm

Last summer the team at Butser Ancient Farm began an ambitious project to create a mosaic in the heart of the Roman Villa.  This is thought to be the first time in millennia that a mosaic has been laid directly on the floor using traditional Roman techniques of design and construction in Britain. Over 150,000 tesserae later, join Project Co-ordinator Sue Webber to learn the story behind the building of the Butser mosaic and what we can reveal about mosaic making in the ancient past. This talk will involve the opportunity to visit the villa to see the mosaic first hand.
