Evening talk – U boats and the Anglo-Saxon landscape with Trevor Creighton.
Thursday 15th August 2019 7 – 8.30pm
Join Trevor Creighton as he discusses the 6th – 8th century Saxon settlement on Church Down, Chalton, and the reconstruction of two Saxon houses at Butser Ancient Farm.
The talk begins with an outline of the transformation of the surrounding landscape – from the Bronze Age to World War II. We will look a little at the local Chalton dig in the early 1970’s, what they found, and how that fits into the Anglo Saxon Britain of the time.
During the second half of the discussion, we will go and sit in the reconstructed Saxon house at Butser, to chat about what’s been built and why… and most important of all, the questions we are yet to answer!
