Ancient Living. Saturday 11 May and Sunday morning 12 May. £180 adults.

Join Mark Havey for a chance to experience prehistoric life for a day and a night. You will learn the skills you would need to keep yourself alive. Fire lighting, weapon making, and food preparation and have the chance to sleep in one of the ancient houses at Butser Ancient Farm. The workshop includes all meals, you will help to prepare one meal and the evening meal will be prepared for you, to enjoy at the end of a day of hard work. You will be part of a small group of people who have had the chance to sleep in one of the ancient buildings at Butser. In the morning, a simple breakfast will prepare you for your return to the modern world.

Be aware this isn’t for softies! You will work hard, you will experience ancient life. There are no showers and we will turn off the mobile phones and get our hands dirty!

This workshop is suitable for anyone interested in prehistory and history, ancient technology or bushcraft. You will learn basic flint knapping, fire lighting techniques, make basic cordage and use ancient-recipe glue to make your own Stone Age spear.

Join Mark Havey from the Butser Education team and  discover how our ancient ancestors gathered materials and made use of them. This workshop is suitable for anyone interested in prehistory and history, ancient technology or bushcraft. You will learn fire making techniques and how to make glue from natural materials that you can then use for joining weapons and tools to wooden hafts.
